Resources in Gardening & Private Estates
A very unique and rewarding career path is to work on fine estates either as a caretaker or
gardener.  The advantage to both the employer and employee is dedication.  Such a position
requires someone who is dedicated and takes pride in their work.  The disadvantage of the job
is that the relationship between the employer and employee must be right.  These jobs often
last only a year or two if personalities and expectations are matched.  Working on a private
estate offers someone various opportunities.  A position as both a gardener and caretaker is a
powerful one to have.  One can gain knowledge of a property that is essential for its continued
operation, thus making you a much looked to person.  If you enjoy horticulture with a twist,
pursue a career as an estate caretaker / gardener.

There are formal programs for domestic help, which may assist in getting a job as a caretaker,
but you will need a degree in horticulture.  Master gardeners are often selected as well, so be
sure to review such programs.  Finding a job as a caretaker is difficult because there are so few
in comparison to other landscape jobs.  Review some of the links below to assist in your search.
